Last Summer

Just a few bits from this past summer. I miss it already.

Micronesia

These are photos from a trip I went on to the Northern Mariana Islands last summer with the Biology department at my school. I'm not studying Biology but I had the opportunity to come along and take photos of seashells to be used in a Saipan Scientific field guide.

Hike to the Hollywood Sign

This summer I set the goal to explore more around my community, see my home from different angles. My sister and I hiked up to the Hollywood sign a few weeks ago and enjoyed a classic California sunset from the top. The only downside was that we had to descend in the dark. At the top one side faced Hollywood and LA all the way to the ocean while the other looked down upon our dear hometown of Burbank. Next on my list is a hike across the Verdugo mountain range but we'll have to wait till the weather cools off a little for that.

Also I recently finished "A Man's Search for Meaning" by Viktor E. Frankl. If you haven't read it yet, YOU MUST.

"Summer, where all the days run into each other and every day is a Saturday night."

I got back to California in June and we kicked off the summer with a backyard barbecue. I love the ageless feeling unique to this time of year.

World Fire Knife Championships 2011

A couple of months ago for work I had the opportunity to attend two nights of the 2011 World Fire Knife Championships just next door to my school at The Polynesian Cultural Center. I went in 2009 but this this time I was able to sit in the front row and feel the flames singe my eyebrows.

"Spring is When Life is Alive in Everything" -Christina Rossetti

The first photo is the Mother's Day card I made this year. The rest are from other good times I've had during the Spring including learning how to make sushi and doing a hike called Crouching Lion with some friends.
