To celebrate Cinco de Mayo (Mexico's victory over France in the Battle of Puebla) I took the metro over to Olvera Street, the oldest street in LA. When I was a child my grandparents would take my cousins and I there to get Mexican candy and watch the dancers. Now after having lived in Mexico for two years I've developed a deep love for the Mexican culture.
I've made it a goal to hike A LOT this summer so I kicked it off this week with the Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Reserve. My friend and I were very pleased to find a nice pond along the trail nestled in tall swaying grass and patches of mustard plants. It amazes me that we have places like this in Los Angeles yet nobody knows they're here. You just have to know where to look.
